1,476 m high into the Sierra Nevada Nature Park.
Here comes the second part of our serpentine tour: we continue from Sopotujar (the witches’ village) to Trevelez (the ham village) – 28 km and what feels like 300 bends later, we arrive in the village that is famous throughout Spain for the air-dried Iberian ham produced here. This village is also suffering from a decline in population, and the almost 700 inhabitants now live mainly from ham tourism. If you take the tour in winter and look towards the mountains, you can see the snow-covered peaks of the Sierra Nevada. You soon realize that a short-sleeved shirt is not the right clothing up here, even though the sun is shining. Almost everyone treats themselves to a ham and cheese platter – a must if you’ve meandered through the landscape this far. … also read the article about“Pampaneira” – the chocolate village.
