Hiking day & discovery tour to the largest stalactites in the world …
… it is located in the “Cueva de Nerja”.
The cave was discovered by chance in January 1959.
5 friends were looking for bats and broke off a stalactite at a cave entrance to see if you could get in somehow – into the cave.
First, they found skeletons of animals and humans.
From then on, archaeologists went to work.
This stalactite cave, almost 5 km long and with a total spread of 35 km, is located near the town of Nerja, in the Spanish province of Málaga.
Since 2006, the cave has been a protected cultural asset. Actually, there are two 2 caves.
One for the public sector and one in which research is still underway, because murals were only discovered there in 2012.
There are different research results about the origin and age of the charcoal drawings, which are probably still ongoing.
Since 1960, there has been a third man-made entrance to allow easy access for tourists.
One of the chambers forms a natural amphitheater where concerts are regularly held.
The cave is subtly illuminated, concrete stairs and hand railings lead you around the largest stalactite in the world.
Security personnel make sure that you don’t stray from the right path.
Admission price: €15.50 per person (as of 2025). Included in the price:
